Toward Practical Applications for Next-generation ICT Platform Technologies
Okinawa Open Laboratory
The Okinawa Open Laboratory, a general incorporated association in Japan, was established in May 2013 with an ambitious mission: to promote the practical application and dissemination of next-generationICT platform technologies, including software-defined networking (SDN), network function virtualization (NFV) and cloud computing using open-source software (OSS). The operation of the Okinawa Open Laboratory is being made possible through guidance and support of numerous partners and stakeholders, for which we are deeply grateful.
ICT has developed at a blistering pace in recent years, with novel
elemental technologies emerging in profusion. Applications, on the other hand, have lagged, with many issues awaiting providing tests and improvements and developments sorely needed to serve the needs of both providers and end users.
To close this gap, the Okinawa Open Laboratory partners actively with both industry and academia, inviting engineers to join us in research and development on an open basis. The fruits of these labors are disclosed openly, to promote the practical implementation and dissemination of next-generation ICT platform technologies. Moreover, leveraging Okinawa’ s unique position as the gateway to Asia, the Laboratory provides a forum for global research activities and hosts a full schedule of international conferences and technology seminars. All of these efforts raise the profile of Okinawa in particular and Japan in general as a global research hub.
On behalf of the Okinawa Open Laboratory, I ask for your kind support, guidance and encouragement.
